Fakaalofa lahi atu ke he higoa tapu he ha tautolu a Iki ko Iesu Keriso. Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We are a Niuean church based in Clontarf, North Brisbane.

We believe in one God (triune) with three 3 distinct persons; Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. We believe in the bible as the absolute true and accurate Word of God. We believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ and that God created the heavens; earth and everything in them.

In 2017 our Ekalesia (“congregation” or “church” in Niuean) was born after a period of thinking, planning and praying.

In no particular order, the original founders were Reverend George Sionetuato, Duncan Taleni, Kautau Taleni, Frances Taleni and Marion Makavilitoga. Ekklesia Niue Northside Brisbane church as it was named then, started opening for business at the Zilmere community hall on sundays.

Togasiua Togaikitama and Ehanaligi Togaikitama were anointed as Elders (Ulumotua). Reverend Don and Reverend Ere Ikitoelagi from the Parnell Niuean Ekalesia, Auckland, flew over specifically to anoint Siua and Ligi, to be Deacons and Ulumotua and also Gia Tim Puhotau, to become a Deacon.

In those early days we only had a few families but our desires to continue worshipping God in our own native language, and to expose our children to our culture, overcame any obstacles.

We have since moved from Zilmere to our current location, 145-149 Elizabeth Ave, Clontarf, in the multipurpose hall belonging to the Clontarf Beach Baptist church. Our Baptist family has been extremely generous to us. Not only have they provided the space, instruments and systems for us to use but they have also shared their Senior Pastor, Reverend Andrew Otte. We have easy access to their people including their Pastor PJ, Pastor Allen, Paul, Cheryl, Mary and many of their Elders. Clontarf Baptist and Andrew is like family. We pray for a lasting relationship with all of them in years to come.

In addition we have also met our brethren from the Filipino Shimbahang church. It is always joyful and peaceful to worship and play music together with our Filipino family. I will share more about them and Clontarf Baptist at another time.

At the end of 2020, our first leader and co-founder, Reverend George Sionetuato returned to Auckland. In his absence we appointed Dean & his wife Fiona to take over the leadership duties. Dean, Fiona and their two children are devout Christian believers and have been for much of their lives.

Our leaders are supported by Reverend Andrew Otte (Clontarf Beach Baptist church), our two anointed Ulumotua – Siua and Ligi Togasiua Puhotau and our anointed deacons – Kau and Frances Taleni, Gia Tim Puhotau and Duncan Taleni.

Duncan and Dana Taleni and their family have only just came back in 2021 after a few years of absence where they attended another local Church. Always a pleasure to welcome God’s people to His fold.

Towards the end of 2021, we were joined by Tukulagi and Sapina Mahakitau. To say that we were very excited at having these two tupuna joined our family is an understatement.

The Sunday school ministry is led by Fiona, Joanne Falaniua and Enise Tukuleva. The music team is led by Frances, Jo, Kini with Ryan helping with guitar and other duties. The systems (audio, livestream, projector) are managed by Claude, One, Hayley and Kene.

Our services are in Niuean and English as not many of us know Niuean well. In saying that, we strongly encourage the active use of Niuean and will implement some initiatives to teach and promote it within our Church. Our Niuean language and culture is very important but it’s not more important than the Word of God.

Put another way, Jesus is number one, Jesus is preeminent over everything else including language and culture.

You are all invited to come and worship with us. Although we embrace our Niue identity in everything we do; we are also aware of our need to respect other cultures.

Kua fiafia lahi ke tuku atu e uiina he Atua kia mutolu oti ke omai ke tapuaki auloa a tautolu. Kia tumau e mafola moe monuina he Atua kia tautolu oti.

As God wills, we will,

Paku (Dean).
